Join our movement to build a network of caring, empathetic leaders
In September 2021, a bipartisan group of senior congressional staff showed up to a D.C. rooftop to take a break from politics and participate in the first of our Three Dinners series.
Why? The past year has been characterized by tremendous acrimony, frustration, and disconnection, and many people are ready for something new.
CARE LAB designed Three Dinners: A master class on science-based tools for resilience in leadership to bring some of the best thinking around stress, polarization, conflict, and othering - plus evidence-based tools for addressing these challenges - direct to leaders. Our first dinner proved we’ve hit on an approach that resonates with our audience.
Through a live biofeedback demonstration and presentation from expert Alexander Caillet, Dinner One participants learned about the impacts of stress on the brain and body, and a few simple science-based tools for managing it. In the next two dinners, we will go on to engage in a discussion with john a. powell about ways that stress, anxiety, and fear lead to division; speak with Amanda Ripley about the difference between high and good conflict; and learn practical tools for avoiding toxic polarization and building bridges.
From there, CARE LAB will continue to deepen our work with this influential group, and broaden our programs to other groups of cultural, political, and civic leaders. Our goal is to build a robust network of collaborative leaders who want to lead with empathy, care, and humility – and can model a leadership style that will be emulated by others in order to begin repairing the profound mistrust that exists at so many levels within our country and the world.
We’re looking at a huge opportunity! We need your accompaniment to get through this critical inaugural period. Can you help us launch?
What our Three Dinners participants are saying:
“I had a great time and learned so much. I’ve been telling everyone about the breathing and gratitude technique we learned to lower stress. I am so grateful to be included in these dinners.”
“[It makes sense for Democrats and Republicans to do these dinners together.] These are not partisan issues. They are management and leadership challenges we all face.”
“It was a great night. I loved the demo Alexander did. Showing is so much more powerful than telling. I have been breathing into my heart ever since!”
